Notes – By March of 1982 Metallica had their first proper line up and had started playing gigs, it is not known if these tracks are an early demo or merely a taped rehearsal/practise session. Of the three original tracks, both “The Mechanix” & “Jump In The Fire” have alternative lyrics, The Mechanix was re-titled “The Four Horsemen” & given new lyrics during the recording of “Kill`Em All” in mid 1983. All of the cover versions are very straight forward & similar to the original versions. (Running time for the tracks vary somewhat)

Notes – This is the first demo that was recorded on half decent equipment, this demo was originally untitled but has since been refered to as the “Power Metal” demo, that name comes from an early business card that the band used, the name has stuck with this demo!! “Jump In The Fire” and “The Mechanix” still have different lyrics.

Tracks:
1 – Whiplash (4:16)
2 – No Remorse (5:36)

Notes – This was the last demo recorded before the band started work on their first full length album “Kill `Em All”, the tracks don`t sound very different to the album versions that appeared on “Kill ‘Em All”. This is also the only studio recording with Dave & Cliff playing together. Many bootlegs have these tracks recorded too slow.

“Master Of Puppets” Demo’s – Recorded in San Francisco, CA?? on 14/07/85.

Metallica Line Up Number 5
Vocals & Rhythm guitar – James Hetfield
Drums – Lars Ulrich
Bass – Cliff Burton
Lead Guitar – Kirk Hammett

Tracks (All instrumentals unless noted):
1 – Disposable Heroes – Take 1 (6:02)
2 – Disposable Heroes – Take 2 (3:08)

4 – Welcome Home (Sanitarium) – Take 2 (9:34)
5 – Battery (5:24)
6 – Master Of Puppets (8:42)

Notes – “Disposable Heroes” has different lyrics. Take 2 of “Welcome Home (Sanitarium)” has an extra four minutes of music towards the end of the track, this music was replaced in the final version. The extra four minutes was expanded and reworked until it became the track “Orion”, many bootlegs list this track as “Orion” when it is actually half “Welcome Home Sanitarium” and half “Orion” due to this error on many bootlegs I am only listing track detail for the cd`s that I have had confirmed. The track “Disposable Heroes” was played live six months before the release of the album.
